Qualifications

  • Knowledge of radiographic imaging techniques, anatomy, and radiation safety principles from an accredited program.
  • Patient care principles including age-specific needs and safe patient handling.
  • Skill in performing routine radiographic procedures under supervision, including accurate positioning and exposure technique selection.
  • Basic proficiency in operating radiographic equipment and digital imaging systems, following direction for equipment setup and image processing.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, accept feedback, and apply learned skills to develop clinical competency in a hospital imaging environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide compassionate, patient-centered care, ensuring patient comfort and cooperation during procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform supervised radiographic examinations according to established protocols, ensuring proper positioning and image quality.
  • Verify exam orders and clinical indications, assisting with accurate documentation and proper exam setup.
  • Prepare and assist patients, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring safety and comfort throughout the exam.
  • Apply radiation safety practices, using protective measures and following regulatory and departmental guidelines.
  • Operate radiographic equipment under supervision, including digital systems, positioning devices, and imaging accessories.
  • Assist with transporting, positioning, and moving patients, using proper body mechanics and safe-handling techniques.
  • Support technologists and physicians during procedures, including room preparation, equipment setup, and basic assistance.
  • Maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and readiness for patient care.
  • Participate in training and competency development, actively applying feedback to improve technical skill and clinical knowledge.
  • Uphold departmental standards, contributing to a safe, efficient, and patient-focused environment consistent with TGH values.

Description

The Graduate Radiology Technologist performs general diagnostic radiographic procedures under direct supervision and in accordance with established protocols for diverse patient populations. Working under the direction of a Radiologist, Administrative Director, Radiology Team Leader, or Section Manager, this role follows clinical guidance to safely apply ionizing radiation for diagnostic imaging. The technologist assists in patient preparation, positioning, imaging, and documentation while developing technical competency and professional judgment. The Graduate Radiology Technologist assumes responsibility for assigned tasks, adheres to safety and regulatory standards, and provides age‑appropriate and compassionate care in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology

ARRT Registry Eligible
