Description
The Surgical Radiology Technologist 2 is a skilled imaging professional responsible for independently performing high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures in an OR setting. Requires a comprehensive understanding of regulatory standards and a deep commitment to patient-focused care. Demonstrates clinical acumen, executes sophisticated imaging procedures and serves as a mentor for less experienced team members. Participation in activities to ensure compliance with surgical and radiation standards is essential. Adept to diverse surgical and clinical settings, exercising a high degree of autonomy and maintaining effective communication with the surgical team. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Essential Functions
- Independently performs high-quality imaging in a surgical setting.
- Prepares exam rooms and equipment for procedures.
- Ensures proper image labeling and documentation.
- Participates in quality assurance and safety programs.
- Maintains equipment cleanliness and readiness.
- Troubleshoots technical and equipment issues and coordinates with service vendors.
- Presents a professional, welcoming, supportive and calm demeanor during all aspects of interactions while following TGH principles.
- Mentors and trains Surgical Radiology Technologist 1 staff or students as needed.
- Recognizes when to escalated cases or request assistance to maintain patient safety and workflow efficiency.
- Demonstrates the ability to seamlessly transition between service lines (orthopedic, vascular, neurology, general surgery) to meet case demands and workflow needs.
- Develops an understanding of individual surgeon imaging preferences.
- Ensures optimal image quality to support physician decision-making in critical, time-sensitive procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Technical Program Radiology Technologist Or Associate’s Degree Radiography
License/Registration
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Registered Radiography Technologist by American Association of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Work Experience and Additional Information
- Two (2) years of Surgical Radiology experience
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology relevant to imaging.
- Proficient understanding of maintaining the sterile environment.
- Proficient in the use of PACS, EMR and performing basic troubleshooting or QC testing.
- Expertise in positioning patients for high-quality diagnostic exams in an OR setting.
In-depth knowledge of Urology cases. - In-depth knowledge of orthopedic cases, such as intramedullary nailing of the humerus, tibia and SI joint fusions.
- In-depth understanding of radiation dose optimization and protective measures for patients and staff.
- Application of ALARA principles and correct use of protective measures.
- Demonstrates independent proficiency in C-arm setup and operation.
- Intraoperative imaging for posterior cervical fusion cases.
- Intraoperative imaging for multi-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion cases.
- Intraoperative imaging for 2-level lumbar transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion cases.
- Fluoroscopic guidance during advanced vascular procedures that include Thrombectomy, TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) and aortic dissection repair.
- Skilled in identifying and resolving technical and procedural issues.
- Ability to collaborate closely with surgeons to ensure precise visualization and accurate instrumentation placement.
- Ability to perform unassisted portable imaging within OR environment.
- Ability to independently evaluate image quality, identify artifacts and make necessary adjustments.
- Ability to maintain efficient workflow for patient schedule and throughput.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and make sound clinical decisions based on protocols.
- Flexibility to learn new techniques, adapt to updated protocols and respond to patient needs.
