Thrive Education Partners seeks an experienced probability and statistics tutor for a Vanderbilt graduate course (CE 6300). This remote, evenings-based role begins immediately, with sessions twice weekly and content tailored to advanced probability, reliability, and statistics concepts.

The ideal candidate has graduate-level coursework or teaching experience in probability and statistics, with proven ability to explain complex material clearly and to connect theory to engineering applications.

Qualifications

• PhD or PhD candidacy in statistics, applied mathematics, reliability engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Graduate coursework in probability and mathematical statistics.
• Experience as a teaching assistant or instructor for a probability, statistics, or reliability course.
• Working knowledge of Python, R, or MATLAB for simulation and statistical analysis.
• Experience tutoring virtually with screen-sharing tools and a tablet or similar setup.
• Familiarity with Vanderbilt's graduate engineering curriculum or a comparable program.

Responsibilities

• Meet virtually with the student twice per week on a consistent evening schedule.
• Preview upcoming course material so the student arrives at each lecture already familiar with the concepts.
• Break down mathematically complex material into clear, sequential steps with rigor.
• Work through representative problems and course assignments to build problem-solving fluency.
• Connect probability and statistics principles to engineering applications across contexts.
• Identify gaps in prerequisite mathematics or statistics and strengthen them efficiently.
• Support preparation for homework, midterms, and the cumulative final exam.
• Coordinate scheduling and session focus with the student, adjusting frequency as needed.
