A leading healthcare institution in Houston seeks a dedicated Laboratory Technician to participate in oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratory operations. The role involves specimen processing and preparation for accurate diagnosis. Successful candidates will be motivated to maintain high-quality standards and must obtain ASCP certification within a year.
Position Summary:
Participates in the day-to-day operations of the oral and maxillofacial pathologylaboratory with regard to histology specimen processing. Processes and prepares patient tissue according to department procedures using a wide range and depth of technical and specialized knowledge. Collaboratively works with other laboratory members, as well as faculty and residents, to supportcontinuous improvement of laboratory services to ensure consistent,high-quality, and timely processesfor accurate and comprehensivediagnosis.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Performs tissue processing, embedding in paraffin, cutting, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides for interpretation by a pathologist.
2. Cleaning work area and equipment as well as maintaining equipment maintenance logs. Helping maintain gross tissue storage area and assisting in discarding tissue per established policy.
3. Assisting with quality control standards in the laboratory.
4. Helping maintain blocks and/or slides files.
5. Responds to emergency situations.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
Minimum Education:
High school degree or equivalent.

None
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
