Job summary

Halff in Austin, TX is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer II to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering and Utility Coordination team. You will support SUE/UC on roadway and transportation projects and municipal infrastructure improvements, with duties ranging from subsurface investigation to coordination and relocation support.

This role offers growth in technical expertise, increasing project responsibility, and a path toward PE licensure, with opportunities to work with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering; ABET-equivalent program.
• 2+ years of SUE/UC or related civil infrastructure experience.
• FE exam completed and progress toward PE licensure preferred.
• Proficiency with CAD/design software and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, survey information, and construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Support SUE/UC projects through design, analysis, documentation, and coordination.
• Assist with subsurface utility investigation, mapping, conflict analysis, and relocation.
• Prepare SUE plans, drawings, exhibits, calculations, and reports using CAD and other software.
• Review survey data, maps, imagery, and other project information for design decisions.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, utilities, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Assist with design specs and construction cost estimates.

Halff has an immediate opening for a Graduate Civil Engineer II to join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)/Utility Coordination (UC) team in Austin, TX.

This position is ideal for a civil engineer looking to grow their experience supporting SUE/UC efforts on roadway and transportation projects, municipal infrastructure improvements, transit projects, and public and private development. Project work may include subsurface utility investigation and mapping, utility conflict analysis, coordination, and relocation support.

What You Will Do

• Support SUE/UC projects through design, analysis, documentation, and coordination.
• Assist with subsurface utility investigation, mapping, utility conflict analysis, and relocation efforts.
• Prepare SUE plans, drawings, exhibits, calculations, and technical reports using CAD and other design software.
• Review survey data, maps, aerial imagery, drawings, and other project information to support engineering design and decision-making.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, utility owners, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Assist with developing design specifications and construction cost estimates.
• Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Perform field observations and review construction activities for general conformance with plans and specifications.
• Support multiple projects while maintaining quality, accuracy, schedules, and project requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or an ABET-accredited equivalent engineering program; Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred.
• 2+ years of experience with SUE/UC or related civil infrastructure projects.
• Successful completion of the FE exam and demonstrated progress toward PE licensure preferred.
• Working knowledge of civil engineering principles, design practices, construction methods, and applicable codes and regulations.
• Proficiency with CAD/design software and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, survey information, and construction documents.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and navigate active construction areas.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, work at a computer, and lift up to 20 pounds.
