  • Knowledge and skills in social media strategy and management.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite of software.

Responsibilities

  • Develops comprehensive marketing and communication plans to promote the Department of Music's vision, mission, goals, performances, and achievements.
  • Researches, designs, and composes content for dissemination through publications, brochures, newsletters, websites, and social media.
  • Leads social media strategy and channel management to build audience reach and brand recognition.
  • Drives social engagement by interacting with students, faculty, alumni, and the arts community in a brand-aligned voice.
  • Creates multi-format social content (Reels/TikToks, live-stream promos, stories, event highlights).
  • Coordinates end-to-end production of materials including editing, layout, print, photography, videography, and copywriting.
  • Manages integrated calendars and production schedules aligned with performances and ticket sales.
  • Submits content and press features to external media and associations.
  • Tracks and analyzes social media performance and campaign metrics to optimize strategies.
  • Prepares press releases and collaborates with University Communications and marketing staff.
  • Plans, organizes, and promotes events, recruitment showcases, performances, and conferences.
  • Maintains digital asset libraries and archives.

The College of Liberal Arts’ Department of Music is looking for a Graduate Student Communications & Marketing Specialist to create communication, marketing and promotional material delivered through various mediums for the Department of Music. To maintain and contribute on all social media platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Develops comprehensive marketing and communication plans to strategically promote the vision, mission, goals, performances, and overall achievements of the Department of Music.
  • Researches, designs, and composes content for dissemination through a variety of mediums, such as internal or external publications, brochures, posters, newsletters, websites, presentations, development/fundraising materials, press packages, broadcast media, and social media channels.
  • Leads social media strategy and channel management, spearheading the department's digital presence across platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn) to build audience reach and brand recognition.
  • Drives social engagement and community building by proactively interacting with students, faculty, alumni, patrons, and the broader arts community, fostering two-way conversations, and responding to inquiries and comments in a timely, brand-aligned voice.
  • Creates dynamic, multi-format social content, including short-form videos (Reels/TikToks), live-stream promotions, interactive stories, event highlights, and behind-the-scenes features showcasing music rehearsals, faculty achievements, and student accomplishments.
  • Coordinates the end-to-end production of materials, overseeing content/style editing, layout design, print production, photography, videography, and copywriting.
  • Manages integrated communication calendars and production schedules, aligning social media campaign rollouts with performance dates, ticket sales, academic milestones, and working by external vendors.
  • Submits content and press features to external media, journals, and regional/national music associations, both proactively and in response to media requests.
  • Tracks and analyzes social media performance and campaign metrics, utilizing analytics tools to measure reach, engagement, follower growth, and conversion (e.g., event attendance, ticket sales) to continually optimize future communication strategies.
  • Prepares press releases and conducts public relations activities in close collaboration with University Communications and marketing staff.
  • Plans, organizes, and promotes special events, meetings, student recruitment showcases, performance tours, and departmental participation at conferences or trade shows.
  • Maintains digital asset libraries, databases, photo/video archives, and electronic records of promotional materials.
