Job summary

Arup is seeking a Graduate Bridge Engineer in Houston, TX to contribute to multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. You will assist with analysis, design, detailing, inspection, and construction support across transportation and energy structures, while building technical and project delivery skills.

You will work with specialists in geotechnical, civil, rail, marine, and construction, and develop drawings and BIM models using digital tools.

Qualifications

• Masters level (or equivalent) in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Strong background in bridge design, structural analysis and FE analysis.
• Interest in transportation infrastructure and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of bridges, retaining structures, and other infrastructure.
• Assist in developing design calculations, reports, specs, and construction documents.
• Support FEM modeling and structural analysis using industry tools.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, civil, rail, marine, and construction teams.

The Opportunity

As a Graduate Bridge Engineer, you will work alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. You will support the analysis, design, detailing, inspection, and assessment of transportation and energy structures while developing technical, project delivery, and digital engineering skills. You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects through all phases of delivery, from planning and concept development through detailed design and construction support.

• Perform structural analysis and design of bridges, retaining structures, and other transportation and energy infrastructure.
• Assist in developing design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
• Support finite element modeling and structural analysis using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including, geotechnical, civil, rail, marine, and construction specialists.
• Support preparation of drawings and BIM models using digital engineering tools.

Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

• Masters level (or equivalent) Doctoral / PhD level (or equivalent) in the fields of Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering
• Concrete Design; Steel Design; Bridge Design; Structural Analysis; Finite Element Analysis.
• Strong academic background in structural analysis and structural design.
• Demonstrated interest in bridge engineering and transportation infrastructure.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.
• Technical Excellence; Communication (written and verbal); Curious Mindset

Nice To Have

• Internship, co-op, undergraduate research, or project experience related to bridge, structural, transportation, or civil engineering.
• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination and eligible for, or currently holding, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and bridge engineering principles.
• Experience with structural analysis software such as CSiBridge, SAP2000, MIDAS Civil, SOFiSTiK, OpenBridge Designer, or similar tools.
• Exposure to BIM, parametric design, automation, coding, or digital engineering workflows.
• Interest in sustainable and resilient infrastructure design.

• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role

Houston Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Houston is $76,500 to $83,500 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Houston will differ.
