Avila University is seeking a Graduate Assistant - Student Success Coach in Kansas City, MO. The GA will work one-on-one with students to identify challenges, develop improvement strategies, and connect them with campus resources.

The position is in-person with a flexible weekly schedule and 220 working hours during the academic year. Tuition remission is provided for 12 graduate credit hours per academic year (6 fall, 6 spring).

Qualifications

• Must be admitted and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University.
• International students are not eligible for graduate assistantships.
• Bachelor's degree required; minimum 3.0 GPA; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work one-on-one with students and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with college students preferred but not required.
• GA term up to two full academic years; hours align with class schedule.

Responsibilities

• Meet individually with students to provide academic success coaching.

Graduate Assistant - Student Success Coach

Position Summary

The Student Success Coach Graduate Assistant works one-on-one with students who need additional academic support. The GA will help students identify challenges, develop strategies for improvement, and connect with appropriate university resources.Tuition remission for 12 graduate credit hours per academic year (6 fall, 6 spring).

This is an in-person position requiring 220 working hours during the academic year. The weekly schedule is flexible and will be determined with the supervisor based on the GA’s class schedule and departmental needs. Once established, the schedule should remain consistent throughout the semester.

Responsibilities:

• Meet individually with students to provide academic success coaching.
• Help students develop skills related to:
  • Time management and prioritization
  • Study skills
  • Goal setting
  • Communicating with professors
  • Balancing academic and personal commitments
  • Creating plans to catch up when falling behind
  • Building academic confidence
• Connect students with appropriate campus resources and support services.
• Provide outreach to students identified through Navigate alerts, progress reports, midterm grades, and other Student Success initiatives.
• Record student meeting notes and outreach in Navigate.
• Participate in training and meetings with the Student Success team as needed.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Must be admitted and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University. International students are not eligible for graduate assistantships.
• The successful candidate for this position will possess a bachelor's degree and must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, a commitment to student development, higher education, creativity, vision, passion, and compassion are imperative.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively one-on-one with students
• Strong organization and time-management skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Experience working with college students is preferred but not required
• The Office of Student Success Graduate Assistant position involves substantial direct involvement with students and staff in various capacities, as such it is expected that the GA must conduct themselves as a professional staff member while in the office which includes dress, behavior, and attitude.
• Project assignment will be consistent with needs, interests and expertise. The GA is expected to work the appropriate number of hours based on the allotted hours stated in the Graduate Assistant policy. The term of this position is based on the availability of the successful candidate but shall not exceed two full academic years.
