Job summary

Prairie View A&M University is seeking a Graduate Assistant in Institutional Research and Integrated Data Analytics to support data quality, governance, and reporting tasks. You will help maintain data dictionaries, produce dashboards, and assist in documentation across departments.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in an applicable field and active enrollment in graduate studies with at least nine credit hours, maintaining SAP with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in applicable field required.
• Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
• Must be in good academic standing (SAP) with minimum 2.0 GPA.

Responsibilities

• Data Quality & Data Management: perform data quality checks, validate institutional data, document inconsistencies, assist in basic cleanup.
• Metadata & Documentation: maintain data dictionary, document data definitions and workflows, standardize terminology across departments.
• Governance Support: coordinate Data Stewardship meetings, prepare agendas and notes, maintain project trackers and documentation.
• Reporting & Analysis: assist in preparing data reports and dashboards, conduct simple data analysis using Excel, Google Sheets, or visualization tools.

Responsibilities

Data Quality & Data Management

• Perform data quality checks and assist with validation of institutional data.

Metadata & Documentation

• Update and maintain the university's data dictionary and metadata repositories
• Document data definitions, reporting rules, and system workflows
• Assist in standardizing terminology across departments

Governance Support

• Assist in the coordination of Data Stewardship and data governance meetings
• Prepare meeting agendas, notes, follow-up items, and presentations
• Help maintain project trackers, issue logs, and documentation repositoriesReporting & Analysis
  • Support staff in preparing data reports and dashboards.
  • Conduct simple data analysis using Excel, Google Sheets, or visualization tools.

  Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

  Preferred Education and Experience

  • Interest or coursework in data science, IT, business, information systems, or related fields .
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus .

  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines.

  Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, or R is helpful but not required.
  • Interest or coursework in data science, IT, business, information systems, or related fields.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
