Position Summary:

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description-Reporting: This position falls under the direct supervision of the Associate Director for Leadership Development.

Job Description-Job Duties and/or Responsibilities: The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development will work with fellow staff members to coordinate and advise OLCE program initiatives and support the overall function of the office.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Co-manage the operations and logistics for either the Bronze or Silver experience of the Spartan Leadership Challenge.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and support of Bronze workshop facilitators or Silver leadership coaches
  • Serve on the facilitation team for the Spartan Leadership Challenge Bronze workshops
  • Review assessment data pertaining to the Spartan Leadership Challenge
  • Serve as a leadership coach for 1-2 silver students
  • Supervise one student employee incorporating the UNCG Spartan Ready program
  • Assist with the management of OLCE social media
  • Assist with the coordination of the Spartan Leadership Challenge Medallion Ceremony
  • Provide support to OLCE office wide programming including, the LiNC planning committee, Changemaker week planning committee, the changemaker of the month program, and days of service programming.

Work Hours, Environment:The position is located in an OLCE office space with other GAs (Each GA has his/her/their own desk area). Work is mainly completed in the office, though some programming takes place in different areas around campus (workshop facilitation, conferences, etc.). This position is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week during the traditional fall and spring semesters.

Additional Terms of Employment: This position is traditionally hired as a 2-year Graduate Assistantship.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:

  • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
  • Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
  • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
