Job Purpose

The Graduate Assistant will gain knowledge and experience in career counseling/advising, fellowships/graduate/professional school advising, and employer relations (recruitment and internships). The position will enhance advising, presentation, and program development/management skills while learning about career services. Training will be provided. Projects/assignments may align with the Graduate Assistant’s career interests.

Essential Functions
  • Career Advising: After training, advise students in their career development process; assist with event planning (panels or other events); create and present career‑related workshops (resume writing, online networking, interview skills); conduct practice interviews and assist with drop‑in hours.
  • Fellowships Advising: After training, advise students on fellowship applications in person and via email; help with information sessions and workshops; answer student questions about the process; help update and develop web resources, including the fellowships directory.
  • Graduate/Professional School Advising: After training, advise students on graduate/professional school programs; create/present workshops on choosing graduate school; assist with hosting graduate/professional school programs on campus.
  • Employer Relations: Work with the Employer Relations team to recruit/host employer events; support the Handshake platform; assist with Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) – semester and summer experience; review applications and provide feedback; organize the summer experience; recruit, review program applications, and plan logistics; maintain, update, and coordinate internship listings and employer data; outreach to students and employers.
Time Commitment and Modality

This posting seeks to hire a Graduate Assistant for the 2026‑2027 academic year. The role is an in‑person position with limited remote work allowed under special circumstances. Standard hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a desired start date of August17,2026. Candidates must be available to work 16‑20 hours per week; weekend and evening work may be required.

Required Hours

Part‑time, non‑exempt. 16–20 hours per week; may vary based on needs.

Additional Position Details

Hourly rate: $22.00 per hour. Salary determination considers education, training, prior experience, and performance. No visa or permanent resident sponsorship. California residents required.
