University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee invites applications for a Graduate Advisor. This 12-month, non-teaching, probationary position leads to indefinite status as academic staff.

It coordinates development and implementation of administrative and student service activities for graduate programs and certificates. Responsibilities include recruitment, admissions, orientation, advising, tracking progress, enrollment management, DEI initiatives, program reviews, and confidential recordkeeping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degree must be granted by date of hire).
• Evidence of excellent written communication skills and attention to detail (based on evaluation of submitted application materials).
• Prior experience working with college students.

Job Summary:

The Graduate Advisor position is a 12-month, non-teaching, probationary leading to indefinite status academic staff position. This position coordinates and executes the development and implementation of the administrative and student service activities of graduate degree program(s) and/or certificate(s).

Performs activities which may include: recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, academic advising, monitoring of progress toward the degree, course and/or enrollment management, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, program enrollment assessment, and academic program review. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. The person in this position functions with independent thinking, creative planning and decision making.

Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, discretion, and initiative are essential because of the significant interaction with students, faculty, and staff from the college and campus. Superb organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, excellent follow-through, demonstrated ability to work independently and with a collaborative team, and an aptitude for detail‑oriented task are all essential. Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Provides in-depth advising services promoting graduate student success, retention, and degree completion.
• Advises graduate students on programs, curriculum, graduate education, and university policies, processes, and procedures.
• Monitors degree progress and assists students in navigating resources and systems throughout the student lifecycle from matriculation to degree completion.
• Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies.
• Maintains compliance with graduate program(s), school/college, and university requirements and technology systems related to admissions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degree must be granted by date of hire).

• Prior experience working with college students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience in recruiting and/or advising students in higher education.
• Familiarity with or experience in rehabilitative science programs.
• Familiarity with UWM’s (or UW System) academic programs, admission requirements, University policies and procedures.
• Experience working with people from diverse cultural, educational, and financial backgrounds.

Compensation:

Salary: $56,500-$62,500 (Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience)
