Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Associates degree or bachelor's degree preferred
• Prior experience working with students with disabilities is preferred
• Training or coursework in special education is preferred
• Alternatives to above qualifications may be considered by the Director of Student Support Services

Responsibilities

• Provide academic support and direct instruction to students to meet IEP goals/objectives.
• Assist teachers with implementing curriculum, accommodations, and modifications for students with special needs.
• Supervise classrooms when the special educator is away from the room.
• Implement positive behavior strategies and supports.
• Attend planning meetings, in-service trainings, and parent-teacher conferences as requested.
• Consult with teachers, special educators, and therapists to discuss progress and strategies.
• Maintain knowledge of current IEPs and collect data as needed.
• Supervise students with disabilities during transitions and activities outside regular class times.
• Provide support to foster independence and positive self-concept.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism as part of the teaching staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
