Qualifications

  • 3+ years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Dual licensure in Special Education and/or ESL preferred.
  • Experience in urban public schools preferred.

  • Collaborate with SPED and ESL teachers to support Special Education Students and English Learners.
  • Communicate with families using culturally responsive strategies for two-way conversations.

Job Description

Elementary teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in Grade 5. Teachers must work collaboratively with the Special Education and English as a Second Language teachers and support staff throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of students. Teachers should provide accommodations for students whose IEPs dictate inclusion services in several content area settings and be well versed in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices to support English Learners. Teachers should have experience and/or training implementing phonics instruction and assessments and exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education
  • Massachusetts Teaching Licensure

Preferred Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Education and/or Special Education
  • 3 or more years of teaching experience
  • Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
  • Experience working in an urban public school setting
  • Coursework in Phonics Instruction and/or Applied Linguistics

Duties
  • Plan and facilitate lessons for students that are aligned with State Standards for Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, Writing and Phonics
  • Use all available technology provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st Century skills
  • Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions
  • Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum that promote self-confidence, teamwork and informed decision making
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for English Learners
  • Incorporate language activities into content instruction including Speaking, Reading and Writing that align with State Standards for Language Proficiency
  • Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target the academic and linguistic needs of students including MCAS and ACCESS, as well as DIBELS and other phonics formative assessments
  • Collaborate and co-plan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners
  • Proctor assessments for students in grades K-5 on exams including MCAS and ACCESS
  • Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations
  • Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to urban education to close opportunity gaps
  • Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who need Social Emotional support
  • Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal
Salary

Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association. SY 26-27. Pay Range - $65,178 - $125,654.
