Position Title: Grade 2 Classroom Teacher
Location: Mitchell Primary School
Position Start Date: August 27, 2025

The Kittery School District is currently seeking a full-time Second Grade Teacher at Mitchell Primary School. We are searching for a dedicated educator with a strong background in literacy and math, and an understanding of developmentally appropriate instructional practices. The ideal candidate will have experience monitoring and evaluating student data to develop and modify instructional plans and materials that meet the needs of all learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons that promote literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress using assessment data to inform instruction.
- Create a classroom environment that fosters learning, personal growth, and mutual respect.
- Motivate students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for effective learning.
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and support staff to enhance student learning and development.
- Build rapport with parents and engage with students in a warm, nurturing manner.
- Help move the Kittery School District Vision 2030 forward.
Qualifications
- Valid Maine Department of Education teaching certification (endorsement in Elementary Education required, 020 or 029).
- Submit to a Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) through the Maine DOE.
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
- Direct experience in K-5 instruction is preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and instructional strategies.
- Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with adults and children from diverse backgrounds.
