Job summary

The State of Oklahoma is seeking a GP Reporting Specialist to support Gross Production activities in the Oklahoma Tax Commission. You will conduct audits, reviews, and investigations, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and accounting standards while producing clear audit reports and recommendations.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, analytical thinking, and collaboration with taxpayers and staff. On-site work with potential telework options may apply for this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or closely related field.
  • Experience substitutions allowed for education as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist taxpayers with proper formatting and submission of their monthly production return.
  • Review monthly production reports to validate variable exemptions and price changes.
  • Redirect monthly remittance and credits to correct periods.
  • Assist taxpayers with penalties and interest explanations.
  • Prepare memos and taxpayer correspondence explaining procedures and regulations.
  • Communicate with taxpayers, legal reps, and staff professionally by email, phone, and in person.
  • Complete assigned work to meet production and accuracy standards.
  • Resolves complex and non-complex tax issues and provides recommendations.

Job Summary

The Specialist supports the Business Tax Services Division by performing various routine audits, reviews, or investigations. This may include independent responsibility for conducting audits of various functions or activities or serving as a member of an audit team in completing more complex audits or special investigations.

The Specialist is involved in conducting professional operational reviews, audits, or special investigations to determine compliance with laws and regulations, generally accepted accounting procedures, financial accountability standards or other requirements. This includes scheduling, planning, and conducting required audits, reviewing required accounting records or other business documents, evaluating financial controls, identifying deficiencies, advising on compliance with established requirements or standards, and preparing audit reports and supporting documents.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist taxpayers with proper formatting and submission of their monthly production return.
  • Review monthly production reports to validate variable exemptions, price changes, and prior period adjustments made by the taxpayer.
  • Redirect monthly remittance and credits to the appropriate gross production periods to ensure the taxpayer’s account reflects the correct balance.
  • Assist taxpayers with understanding penalties and interest associated with their filings.
  • Prepares memos and taxpayer correspondence in a manner sufficient to convey procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Assists taxpayers, legal representatives, internal and external personnel in a professional manner by email, telephone, and in person
  • Completes assigned work items in order to meet section production and accuracy standards.
  • Resolves complex and non-complex business tax issues.
  • Uses proper resources to find solutions and responds in a timely manner.
  • Reviews financial records and other business records; identifies deficiencies; provides advice on requirements for compliance with existing laws, policies, and standards.
  • Prepares audit reports; makes recommendations concerning changes in policies or operating procedures.
  • Performs special investigations as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or closely related field
  • Each year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have completed a CPA certification or have a background in business taxes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Exhibit manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate a computer, keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, with or without aids. Ability to communicate clearly. Physical ability to lift up to 15 pounds, to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach. Duties are normally performed in an office environment with a moderate noise level.

Special Requirements

Travel is not required.

Oklahoma Tax Commission’s normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm. This schedule may require minor flexibility based on the needs of the agency.

Telework may be required based on the needs of the agency, division, and section. If applicable, applicant must be willing and able to work BOTH on-site and telework at an off-site location, generally in the applicant’s home. Applicant must have a secure internet connection and a dedicated telephone (landline) or smart phone device during scheduled working hours.

This position has access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is required to uphold the strictest standards of confidentiality as an essential part of its job responsibilities. This includes safeguarding all tax information obtained from records, files, tax returns, and departmental investigations, whether in paper, electronic, or verbal form.
