Job summary

MoDOT seeks a Governmental Relations Intern to serve as a liaison between the department and public officials. The role involves routine entry-level tasks, attending hearings, and researching proposed legislation affecting MoDOT.

The internship is wage-based and capped at 1,039 hours per year. Responsibilities include preparing impact statements, updating bill content, and explaining MoDOT's position to legislators.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program.
• Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
• Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Attends legislative committee hearings and floor debates to obtain information related to bills.
• Conducts research related to proposed legislation and its potential impact on the department.
• Assists in preparing impact statements for the department's legislative committee for presentation to legislators on how bills affect the department; explains the department's position on legislation.
• Prepares status reports and summaries of bills for the department's legislative committee; updates information on content of bills as amendments are made.
• Reviews the Missouri and Federal Registers for regulations with potential impact on department operations.
• Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
