The Society of Thoracic Surgeons in Washington DC is seeking an entry-level Government Relations Coordinator to support policy advocacy, grassroots efforts, and office operations.
You will coordinate STS member meetings with policymakers, assist in conferences and advocacy activities, draft alerts, monitor policy news, and help grow the STS PAC and related programs.
Contribute to an active advocacy team and develop health policyexpertise. Support the Society's Government Relations Departmentwith grassroots coordination, congressional and administrativecorrespondence, lobbying activities, events planning, membershipactivities, and office administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Grassroots and PAC Activities
Schedule, coordinate, and provide direct support for STSmember meetings with policymakers on Capitol Hill and atgovernment agencies, in state/district offices, and onfacility tours and site visits.
Coordinate the STS-Advocacy Conference and relatedactivities.
Draft grassroots action alerts, STS Advocacy Monthly, andother member communications.
Promote STS Advocacy on social media platforms.
Assist in content development and keep STS advocacy and PAConline resources up-to-date.
Support growth and development of STS Key Contacts and KeyContact Leaders programs and STS-PAC.
Governance and Office Administration
Update and maintain STS grassroots and PAC databases andwebpages.
Provide administrative support to the operations of the STSDC office.
Provide administrative support for STS-PAC operations.
Actively monitor news sources for issues of interest to STSadvocacy.
Coordinate meetings of the Council on Health Policy andRelationships Operating Board Meetings Workforce on HealthPolicy, Reform, and Advocacy, and related Task Forces.
Coordinate responses to STS member questions or requests forinformation.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field is required.
Minimum one year of related work experience is required.Experience working in health policy preferred. Capitol Hillexperience a plus.
An equivalent combination of education, training, andexperience is also considered.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Excellent organizational, planning, and follow-throughcapabilities; attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and manage several projectssimultaneously
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationshipswith co-workers, volunteer leaders, government officials, otherorganizations, and industry contacts; tact, diplomacy, and goodjudgment

The salary range for this non-exempt role is $77,000 - $90,000annually. Actual compensation will be dependent on a candidate'srelevant experience, skills, training, certifications/licenses and qualifications.
