Job summary

City of College Station is seeking a Program Auditor to perform independent evaluations of government programs, agencies, and departments. You will assist planning, conducting routine audits, program evaluations, and analytical activities while ensuring compliance with city policy and regulations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and two years of public accounting or internal auditing experience, with CI A or CPA certifications preferred or attainable within two years.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Public Policy, Business Administration or related field; two years in public accounting or internal auditing.
  • Master’s degree may substitute for up to one year of experience; CIA/CPA certifications may substitute for up to an additional year.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent evaluations of government programs, agencies, or departments to identify risk and evaluate internal controls for compliance with city policy.
  • Investigate programs, processes, and activities to evaluate efficiency, effectiveness, economy, and legality.
  • Perform fieldwork: collect, analyze, and document audit evidence; interview staff and external clients.
  • Analyze results, prepare work papers, and present findings with recommendations.
  • Deliver oral or written presentations to Audit Committee, City Management, and City Council.
  • Follow Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards and update policies as needed.
  • Examine and reconcile funds; verify cash balances and reconcile accounts.
  • Assist with development of annual audit work plan and related duties.
