Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, IS, public policy, business administration or related field with two years in public accounting or internal auditing.
  • Valid Class Texas Driver’s License.
  • CIA certification or ability to obtain within two years of hire date.
  • Master’s degree may substitute for up to one year of experience.
  • A CIA or CPA can substitute for up to one additional year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent evaluations of government programs to identify risk and evaluate internal controls.
  • Investigate programs for efficiency, economy, legality and compliance with city policy.
  • Perform fieldwork: collect, analyze and document audit evidence; interview staff and external clients.
  • Prepare detailed work papers, reports, and recommendations supported by analysis.
  • Deliver oral or written presentations to Audit Committee, City Management, and City Council.
  • Follow GAAS and update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Examine and reconcile working funds; verify cash balances and bank/budget accounts.
  • Assist in developing the annual audit work plan and identify audit risks and priorities.
