Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a hands-on Applied AI Engineer with deep cybersecurity experience to empower US government and national security customers. You will work with cyber operators and engineers to design secure AI-enabled workflows using OpenAI models, integrating with customer security tools and environments.

You will lead technical discovery, build prototypes, and evaluate security, reliability, and operator effectiveness while collaborating across Sales, Solutions Engineering, Applied Research,

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance is required or current
• 7+ years hands-on cybersecurity or security-focused software engineering experience
• Experience with government or national security missions is preferred

Responsibilities

• On-site work with government clients in the DMV area
• Own end-to-end implementation for cyber use cases and security tooling
• Lead technical discovery to identify AI applications across red teaming, adversary emulation, vulnerability research, and threat hunting
• Build secure cyber prototypes and reference architectures using OpenAI models
• Design and run evaluations measuring security impact and operator effectiveness
• Collaborate with Security and Product teams to deliver measurable outcomes
• Contribute reusable code and guidance to open source resources
• Scale the function by sharing knowledge and publishing patterns
