Job summary

The Village of Lemont is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the Finance Department and maintain accurate ledgers, payroll, and cash flow. You will coordinate audits, assist with budgeting, and ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or closely related field.
• CPA strongly preferred; candidates without CPA should demonstrate governmental accounting and financial management experience.
• Seven years of progressively responsible professional accounting or financial management experience; 5+ years in local government/public sector preferred.
• Strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, GAAP, GASB, and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with financial management/ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily Finance Department operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll.
• Review payroll, AP and AR batches.
• Maintain general ledger integrity: reconciliations, journal entries, and cash management.
• Lead and coordinate annual audit; prepare required financial documentation and reports.
• Assist with annual budget preparation, capital planning, financial reporting, and grant administration.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare federal, state, and regulatory financial filings; provide financial analysis and recommendations.

The Village of Lemont is seeking an experienced and motivated

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and oversee daily Finance Department operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll.
• Reviews payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable batches.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including reconciliations, journal entries, and cash management.
• Lead and coordinate the Village's annual audit and prepare required financial documentation and reports.
• Assist with annual budget preparation, capital planning, financial reporting, and grant administration.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal and state requirements, and applicable municipal regulations.
• Prepare and coordinate required federal, state, and regulatory financial filings.
• Provide financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to the Finance Director and Village leadership.
• Supervise, develop, and evaluate Finance Department staff.
• Assist with financial policies, procedures, process improvements, and ongoing contracts.
• Oversee the annual vehicle sticker program and other assigned Finance initiatives.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional accounting or financial management experience, including at least five (5) years in local government or public-sector finance preferred.
• CPA license strongly preferred; candidates without a CPA should demonstrate significant governmental accounting and financial management experience.
• Strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, GAAP, GASB, and regulatory compliance.
