Job summary

City of Denton is seeking a professional accountant to maintain and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial records for funds including General Fund, internal service funds, and capital project funds.

The role emphasizes accuracy, GAAP/GASB compliance, and collaboration with auditors to ensure financial integrity. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting and two years of related experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; and, two years’ experience in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses resulting in a candidate successfully performing the essential function of the job.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial records for various funds including General Fund, internal service funds, trust and agency funds, and capital project funds.
• Prepare account reconciliations such as property tax, sales tax, receivables, bank reconciliations, and payroll accounts.
• Record, monitor, and report capital bond project activities.
• Prepare reports for regulatory agencies as requested.
• Produce financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
• Assist in maintaining internal accounting controls and compliance with GASB statements.
• Support the budgeting process and provide management with reports as needed.
• Research accounting issues and provide workable recommendations to management.
