Goodwill NNE AmeriCorps, located in Portland, ME, seeks a VISTA to coordinate the Walking School Bus initiative, serving a diverse elementary community with multilingual families. You will foster relationships with local leaders, coordinate training and outreach, and ensure ongoing support for student well-being.
The role is full-time, based at the school and community sites, with opportunities to secure funding and partnerships to sustain the program.
The Howard C. Reiche Community School, located in Portland’s West End, is the most diverse elementary school in the state of Maine—ranked #1 out of 342 public elementary schools for diversity. Reiche serves nearly 400 students who represent 18 home languages; one in four students was born outside the U.S. and is currently learning English. The VISTA will work on the Walking School Bus, a shared PTO/Reiche School initiative that builds community connection and supports student well‑being.
