Laurel Oak Country Club in Sarasota, Florida is seeking a Golf Course Spray Technician to join our Golf Course Maintenance team.

Laurel Oak is a private, member-owned country club featuring two championship golf courses maintained to the highest standards. In addition to world-class golf, the club offers extensive amenities including tennis, swimming, and a 45,000-square-foot clubhouse, making it a vibrant hub for member activity and community life.

As a Golf Course Spray Technician, you will play an important role in maintaining the health and appearance of the course by safely applying fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments that help keep our turf and landscape in excellent condition.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current Florida Pesticide Applicator License or have the ability to obtain one

Pay: $21 - $23 an hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Full-time

Job purpose

The Spray Technician is responsible for the safe and effective application of pesticides, fertilizers, and other turf maintenance products on the golf course and related areas. This position plays a key role in maintaining high-quality playing conditions by ensuring proper calibration, mixing, and application of materials according to established schedules and environmental standards.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, mix, and apply fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides according to the superintendent’s directions
  • Operate and maintain spray equipment, spreaders, and related machinery (e.g., sprayers, booms, tanks, pumps) and approved chemical plans
  • Calibrate sprayers and spreaders to ensure accurate application rates
  • Maintain detailed spray records, including product use, areas treated, weather conditions, and application rates
  • Inspect turf areas regularly to identify pests, disease activity, and nutritional deficiencies
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of chemicals and fertilizers; ensure proper storage and labeling per regulatory standards
  • Clean and maintain equipment after use to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use and spill response
  • Assist with general golf course maintenance as needed (mowing, irrigation, bunker work, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding course conditions and needs
  • Demonstrate courtesy to Members and Guests at all times

Working conditions

Work is primarily outdoors. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements

Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitor and develop subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, read and write member communication.

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 80 lbs., up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Ability to consistently lift, carry and load adaptive and other sports equipment that may weigh 50 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes.

Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf’s Club Maintenance person. Following an assessment of the situation, a determination will be made as to whether a maintenance team member or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and/or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings and/or from using scaffolding.

Use the following safety precautions when using an 8 ft. ladder:

  • Correct placement of the ladder. The safest angle for a straight ladder is to ensure it is placed on-fourth the distance from the base to the point of support. A-frame ladders naturally comply.
  • Ensure the ladder is placed on a firm level surface, and do not place the ladder near a doorway.
  • Ensure there are non-skid shoes on the ladder.
  • If using a metal ladder, be sure that it is not near electrical wires.
  • One person on a ladder at one time, and ensure another staff member is holding the ladder in position.
  • Never overreach.
