Job summary

The City of Boston seeks an Assistant Superintendent to oversee daily golf course maintenance operations, turf health, environmental compliance, and staff performance across golf course assets.

Lead crew planning, safety, IPM, irrigation monitoring, and coordination of course improvements, tournaments, and inspections. Weekend and holiday work required during peak season; MA licensing and turf-related education preferred.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible experience in golf course maintenance operations and leadership.
• Associate degree preferred in turfgrass/agronomy/ horticulture, or related field.
• Knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation, pesticides, and safe equipment operation.
• Weekend/holiday work required during peak season.

Responsibilities

• Oversees turf, landscape, bunker, irrigation, and facility maintenance quality.
• Directly supervises staff performance, training, safety compliance, and onboarding.
• Assists with staffing schedules, overtime control, and seasonal workforce planning.
• Acts as lead field decision-maker when Superintendent is unavailable.
• Represents maintenance operations in meetings, inspections, and site visits.
