Job summary

Cordova Recreation & Park District is seeking a self-driven, detail-oriented helper to support golf course landscape and maintenance duties while delivering excellent customer service. Under the Golf Course Superintendent, you will assist with turf care, irrigation, pruning, and facility upkeep at Cordova Golf Course.

The role is seasonal with early morning shifts, involving physical outdoor work and frequent interaction with the public.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• One year of training and experience in the skilled minimum requirements listed above is desirable.
• Golf Course maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in turf maintenance by mowing tees, greens, fairways and rough.
• Maintain golf course standards with daily setup, changing tee markers and hole location.
• Assist in the installation, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Assist in the hand watering of greens and dry areas using quick coupler and hose during warm season.
• Assist in the installation, pruning, and maintenance of various shrubs and trees.
• Perform janitorial work; sweep, mop, and clean areas; clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms; empty trash receptacles.
• Perform general grounds cleaning; pick up and discard trash and litter; remove graffiti; pressure wash as necessary.
• Assess facilities, equipment, and apparatus to identify conditions and safety concerns; take appropriate action.
• Operate a variety of maintenance equipment; clean, maintain, and organize tools and equipment.
• Maintain written records and reports.
• Perform related duties as required.

We are seeking a self-driven and detail-oriented candidate to assist with golf course landscape and maintenance duties, along with demonstrating exceptional customer service!

Summary Description

Under supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, performs a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled labor and maintenance work in the maintenance and operations of the Cordova Golf Course. Our ideal candidate has an understanding of the game of golf.

Typical Schedule

Seasonal, schedule will vary based on weather and course needs - 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday; may include weekends and holidays not to exceed 40 hours per week.

We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diversified growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Assists in the maintenance of turf by mowing tees, greens, fairways and rough; also edging, fertilizing, aerating and raking green areas.
• Maintains golf course standards with daily Golf Course set-up, changing tee markers and hole location.
• Assists in the installation, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Assists in the hand watering of greens and dry areas using quick coupler and hose during warm season.
• Assists in the installation, pruning, and maintenance of various shrubs and trees.
• Perform a variety of janitorial work; sweep, mop, and clean areas; clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms; empty trash receptacles.
• Perform general grounds cleaning; clean and maintain assigned areas; pick up and discard trash and litter; remove and clean-up graffiti; pressure wash assigned areas as necessary.
• Assess facilities, equipment, and apparatus to identify conditions and safety concerns; take appropriate action to ensure safety.
• Operate a variety of maintenance equipment; clean, maintain, and organize tools and equipment required for the job.
• Maintain written records and reports.
• Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge of

• Basic materials, methods, terminology, and tools used in the maintenance, repair, and construction of parks and facilities.
• Proper and safe methods, techniques, materials, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair District parks and facilities.
• Occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.
• Basic report preparation.
• Principles and practices of record keeping.

Ability to

• Perform unskilled/semi-skilled park and facilities maintenance work.
• Operate maintenance tools and equipment related to area of assignment.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions and schedules.
• Perform simple mathematics.
• Meet customer service and teamwork guidelines as defined in the performance standards.
• Be accountable for knowledge and adherence to the District policy manual.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience Guidelines

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
