Job summary

Kong is seeking a Software Engineer for the IAM Team to build scalable backend services powering Kong Konnect and Developer Portal. You’ll develop Golang microservices, enforce IAM policies, and work across multi-tenant platforms.

Join a distributed team and contribute to secure, high-availability systems on AWS and Kubernetes. The role emphasizes code quality, tests, and collaboration with security teams to advance identity and access management capabilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services and distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Golang with production microservices experience.
• Experience with API development and design (REST, gRPC).
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (EKS, ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3).
• Kubernetes experience including deployment, scaling, managing containers.
• Understanding of distributed systems and highly available, fault-tolerant services.
• Knowledge of security practices for backend services including secret management.
• Experience with multi-tenancy and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or Jenkins).
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and data modeling.
• Strong CS fundamentals and collaboration tools (GitHub, Jira, Confluence).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend microservices in Golang powering authentication and authorization.
• Build scalable APIs that integrate IAM capabilities across Kong's product ecosystem.
• Deploy and manage services on AWS using Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Implement secure, performant backend services handling high-volume traffic.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and security teams on IAM best practices.
• Work with product managers and other teams to deliver features for developers and enterprises.
• Write clean, tested code with unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning.
• Monitor and optimize service performance and security with observability tools.
• Participate in on-call rotation for high availability.
• Contribute to engineering culture and security-first development.
