Job summary

Computational Physics Inc is seeking a GNSS Analyst or Mathematician in Washington DC to develop tools and algorithms for monitoring GNSS data accuracy. The role requires a degree in a relevant field and at least six years of experience.

This position is primarily on-site and requires obtaining a SECRET clearance. The successful candidate will work closely with other team members at the U.S. Naval Observatory, enhancing GPTA data products.

Job description

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is looking for a GNSS Analyst or Mathematician to support our customers at the U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington DC.

Background

The U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) provides precise time, Earth orientation and astronomical data to the U.S. Department of Defense, the Global Positioning System (GPS), various U.S. Federal agencies, and other users world-wide. The USNO Earth Orientation (EO) Department generates Earth Orientation Parameters using observations made by GPS receivers and very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) and provides multiple data products on a regular schedule. CPI is seeking a GNSS Analyst or Mathematician to support the GPS Analysis Division of the EO Department at USNO. The successful candidate will develop tools and algorithms for monitoring the validity and accuracy of GNSS data products produced by the International GNSS Service (IGS).

Most work for this position will be completed on-site at USNO in Washington, D.C. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance upon hiring. The new GNSS Analyst will work closely with other CPI contractors and civilian members of the Earth Orientation department, providing periodic updates to the GPS Analysis Division Chief.

Basic Qualifications
  • Degree in geodesy, geophysics, physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field
  • At least six years of experience, this may include relevant work toward an advanced degree
  • Python programming in a Linux environment
  • Analysis of large datasets
  • Knowledge of standard software development practices: version control, documentation, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Candidate must obtain a SECRET clearance upon hiring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with orbit determination and parameter estimation
  • Experience with time-series data
  • Experience using standard GNSS data formats and GNSS data processing
  • Experience calculating, estimating, and/or using Earth orientation parameters

U.S. citizenship is required for DoD contracts.
