Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics in Indianapolis is seeking a Laboratory Operations Lead to helm day-to-day activities across analytical labs supporting process development, characterization, technology transfer, and GMP testing. You will ensure lab readiness for new programs, manage equipment lifecycles, oversee safety and quality systems, and drive data-driven improvements through digital workflows.

Qualifications

• BS in chemistry, biology, or related scientific discipline.
• 5+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical/chemical/biotechnology/process development labs.
• Experience managing lab operations in a regulated environment.
• Ability to work safely in a lab (chemical handling, PPE, safety equipment).
• Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time (Lilly does not sponsor visas).

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of analytical laboratories supporting process development, characterization, technology transfer, GMP testing, and manufacturing support.
• Ensure lab readiness for new programs, equipment installations, method transfers, and facility expansions; develop resource plans, schedules, and capacity forecasts.
• Serve as primary escalation point for lab operational issues.
• Foster safety culture and ensure HSE compliance; maintain quality compliance and inspection readiness (support audits/inspections).
• Apply 5S and ALCOA principles to maintain an organized, compliant, inspection-ready lab.
• Oversee analytical equipment lifecycle (procurement, installation, qualification, calibration, maintenance, relocation, retirement) and manage reliability/availability.
• Manage lab assets and inventories (consumables, reagents, standards, critical materials); monitor utilization and performance metrics; drive improvements.
• Lead initiatives for productivity, automation, digitalization, and operational excellence; implement digital workflows; use data-driven metrics; promote cross-functional collaboration.
