Job summary

Priority Dispatch Corp. is seeking a Medical Assistant to support medical staff with patient intake, vital signs, phlebotomy, and sample collection. The role includes managing appointments, coordinating referrals, and ensuring accurate charting in the electronic health record.

You will assist with triage, provide patient education when needed, and maintain supplies under the direction of providers. Federal and tribal guidelines apply and confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed a Medical Assistant training program.
  • Two years’ experience in a medical outpatient setting, or current Medical Assistant certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic health records and accurate documentation.
  • Vital signs and patient intake skills.
  • Phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clinical staff with client service flow and patient intake.
  • Measure vital signs and prepare equipment for procedures.
  • Schedule and verify appointments, including referrals and testing.
  • Handle calls, messages, and direct records to appropriate personnel.
  • Pull charts and maintain patient documentation.
  • Assist nurse with triage and prioritization of cases.
  • Train end-users on the electronic health record system.
  • Maintain clinic supplies and inventory under provider direction.
  • Support program development and dissemination of health information.

SUMMARYThe Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the medical staff for direct patient care. The Medical Assistant completes intake information and triage, controls patient flow, prepares referral documents and completes office duties as assigned.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:Performs clinical functions, such as assisting with client service flow, obtaining vital signs, medical equipment and supply set-up as well as assisting with bedside medical proceduresSchedules patient appointments; verifies appointments prior to service date, schedules referral appointments including diagnostic testing and coordinates patient’s records with outside providersProvides exceptional customer service while receiving and assisting patients, places patients into examination rooms and directs appropriate patient records for provider review prior to service deliveryPerforms sample collections such as blood draw, urine collection, and other similar patient sample collection for lab testing purposesMaintains accurate logs and dispositions of all appointments and outside referralsAnswers and logs incoming telephone calls for provider office, directs calls to appropriate clinic personnel, or takes detailed messages and delivers to appropriate personnelAssists clinic nurse with triage of incoming calls for the acuity of concern and priority appointmentsPulls client charts 24 hours prior to the daily schedule, maintains information according to chart format and files charts after final disposition of serviceTrains end-users on the use of the electronic health recordMaintains clinic supplies, inventory records of incoming supplies, prescribed medication samples and items provided to patients under the direction of providersFacilitates the dissemination of information regarding department programs and assists with client health education as neededAssists management in the continued development and implementation of the electronic health record as a legal record of medical care given to patientsMaintains professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable Tribal, federal or state laws and proceduresPosition will be cross trained for registration and community health transportationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESMust have strong public relations skills, including both verbal and written communicationAbility to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with heightened attention to detail and accuracyMust have good organizational skills and the ability to multi-taskMaintain the highest level of confidentiality of all mattersPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSFrequently required to sit and talk or listenOccasionally required to stand, frequent walking, use hands to handle, feel, and reach with hands and armsOccasionally lift and/or move up to 25 poundsWork may involve exposure to infections, communicable diseases, contaminated materials, and/or bodily fluids, resulting in the need to wear protective equipment such as masks, eye protection, rubber gloves, and gownsCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTMust possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurableOccasional non-traditional hours including working evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned to meet program needs and deadlinesAbility and willingness to travel for program requirements, meetings, and continuing educationSECURITY SENSITIVEThis position will have access to information that is security sensitive and thereby subject to additional provisions.
