# GLT - Medical AssistantLegal Address - Shelbyville, MI 49344## OverviewPosition TypeFull TimeJob ShiftDay## Description**SUMMARY**The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the medical staff for direct patient care. The Medical Assistant completes intake information and triage, controls patient flow, prepares referral documents and completes office duties as assigned.**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include, but are not limited to the following:* Performs clinical functions, such as assisting with client service flow, obtaining vital signs, medical equipment and supply set-up as well as assisting with bedside medical procedures* Schedules patient appointments; verifies appointments prior to service date, schedules referral appointments including diagnostic testing and coordinates patient’s records with outside providers* Provides exceptional customer service while receiving and assisting patients, places patients into examination rooms and directs appropriate patient records for provider review prior to service delivery* Performs sample collections such as blood draw, urine collection, and other similar patient sample collection for lab testing purposes* Maintains accurate logs and dispositions of all appointments and outside referrals* Answers and logs incoming telephone calls for provider office, directs calls to appropriate clinic personnel, or takes detailed messages and delivers to appropriate personnel* Assists clinic nurse with triage of incoming calls for the acuity of concern and priority appointments* Pulls client charts 24 hours prior to the daily schedule, maintains information according to chart format and files charts after final disposition of service* Trains end-users on the use of the electronic health record* Maintains clinic supplies, inventory records of incoming supplies, prescribed medication samples and items provided to patients under the direction of providers* Facilitates the dissemination of information regarding department programs and assists with client health education as needed* Assists management in the continued development and implementation of the electronic health record as a legal record of medical care given to patients* Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable Tribal, federal or state laws and procedures* Position will be cross trained for registration and community health transportation**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES*** Must have strong public relations skills, including both verbal and written communication* Ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with heightened attention to detail and accuracy* Must have good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task* Maintain the highest level of confidentiality of all matters**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*** Frequently required to sit and talk or listen* Occasionally required to stand, frequent walking, use hands to handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms* Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds* Work may involve exposure to infections, communicable diseases, contaminated materials, and/or bodily fluids, resulting in the need to wear protective equipment such as masks, eye protection, rubber gloves, and gowns**C****ON****DITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT*** Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable* Occasional non-traditional hours including working evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned to meet program needs and deadlines* Ability and willingness to travel for program requirements, meetings, and continuing education**SECURITY SENSITIVE**This position will have access to information that is security sensitive and thereby subject to additional provisions.
