UITS NETWORKS & SECURITY (UA-NTW-IUBLA) is the GlobalNOC hosted by Indiana University. Since 1998 it has supported research, education and public‑interest networks by managing more than 30 large‑scale networks for a global community of 120 staff members. The organization operates as a non‑profit and values technical excellence, client service and a positive work/life balance.

Department Specific Responsibilities
- Perform professional communications tasks for GlobalNOC at Indiana University.
- Write, edit and produce media, multimedia, educational materials, social‑media and web content, and promotional pieces.
- Manage multiple projects and collaborate with other departments and employees.
- Assist leadership in creating basic communications for print and electronic distribution to support departmental goals.
- Respond to inquiries, explain policies and procedures, and provide context for communications.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and cover relevant initiatives, events and programs.
- Prepare communication timelines and track progress toward deadlines.
- Monitor social media and news sites, research subject matter and maintain knowledge in communication specialties.
- Use communication software programs to deliver messages in multiple formats to diverse audiences.
Education
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Preferred
- Enrollment in the Media School or related program.

Position Summary
The internship focuses on designing, implementing and maintaining a robust communications plan that keeps the GlobalNOC community informed about the organization’s work. You will collaborate with team members to collect, organize and publish information across multiple channels for a diverse audience. The role requires effective computer use, handling of medium‑size equipment (up to 50 pounds), and the ability to perform essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Current Projects For Upcoming Internships
- Improve the quarterly GlobalNOC Connects newsletter tailored to key stakeholders.
- Define and implement an internal communication plan through channels such as Slack.
- Coordinate communications for special interest groups (e.g., AIOps and web portals) and create content to highlight activities.
- Develop 1‑pagers for new services, tools and other important topics.
- Plan a program for engaging multiple target audiences across channels.
- Update the GlobalNOC website using IU's WCMS (https://uits.iu.edu/services/software-and-platforms/wcms/index.html).
- Develop a social‑media strategy for engaging the community, peers and relevant contacts.
Location
GlobalNOC Building, 2715 East 10th Street, Bloomington, Indiana 47408. In‑person work is preferred but a hybrid schedule may be available.
