Job summary

NBCUniversal is seeking a technically strong Architect for Global Video Engineering to design next-generation playback systems serving millions of users worldwide. You will define player framework boundaries, optimize device and network use, and craft seamless ad experiences with third-party integrations.

The role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, strong communication, and staying ahead of streaming technologies to deliver world-class playback quality at scale.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in video player architecture or 4+ years in video player development.
• Hands-on experience implementing a major media playback framework (MSE/AVFoundation/ etc.).
• Strong verbal and written communication for technical and business audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design and document scalable, high-performance video playback workflows across Linear, Live, and VOD.
• Create workstream designs, diagrams, and interface contracts for cross-team alignment.
• Incorporate performance, availability, security, and observability into designs.
• Collaborate with engineers to translate design into implementable plans and criteria.
• Lead architecture reviews and evangelize best practices for video playback.
• Stay current on streaming protocols and technologies to apply across the area.
