The Global Trade Compliance Agent Lead is responsible for developing and executing policies aligned with international trade agreements, U.S. and foreign customs regulations, and trade legislation. As the subject matter expert, this role ensures streamlined trade operations by establishing standardized procedures, minimizing regulatory risks, and managing end-to-end trade compliance programs.

This position provides strategic guidance on import/export compliance across all company locations, collaborates with customs brokers and freight forwarders, and serves as in-house counsel on regulatory matters. The Lead drives trade initiatives, fosters relationships with internal teams and government agencies, and optimizes compliance strategies that support global business operations.

What You Will Do

  • Operations:
    • Review tariff classifications and collaborate with Customs to ensure proper classification.
    • Validate processes and customs entries for completeness and compliance.
    • Partner with engineering and product teams to determine import tariff numbers, export classification, and licensing requirements.
    • Identify free trade agreement opportunities and assess cost-saving methods for duty reduction.
  • Strategy and Design:
    • Develop and manage a comprehensive trade compliance program, ensuring global consistency.
    • Provide expert guidance on import/export regulations and international trade matters.
    • Ensure adherence to valuation, markings, labeling, country of origin regulations, and free trade agreements.
    • Support business strategies through compliance-driven trade practices that enhance operational efficiency.
  • Data and Systems:
    • Maintain the item master database, ensuring accuracy in classification codes.
    • Oversee landed cost analysis, verifying customs duties, taxes, and fees to maintain competitive pricing.
    • Manage compliance data for U.S. Customs audits, including ISA (Importer Self-Assessment), ISF (Importer Security Filing), and C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism).
    • Ensure compliance with export control programs, including licensing requirements and Denied Party Screening protocols.
  • Trade Compliance:
    • Assist in the design and maintenance of Centers of Excellence for global trade compliance.
    • Maintain export/import manuals and control procedures, ensuring operational consistency.
    • Research and interpret trade regulations, advising on their effect on business operations.
    • Identify compliance risks, implement mitigation strategies, and lead corrective actions when necessary.

What You Will Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or International Trade required (Master’s preferred).
  • Certification: U.S. Licensed Customs Broker.
  • Experience: 8+ years in trade compliance, including 4 years in brokerage or freight forwarding.
  • Industry Knowledge: Extensive understanding of customs regulations, foreign trade policies, and tariff classifications.
  • Systems Expertise: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Global Trade Management Software.
  • Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and project management capabilities.
  • Legal Acumen: Expertise in researching trade laws, assessing risks, and implementing compliance strategies.

Compensation: The expected annual base salary range for this role is $100,000 - $115,000. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
