Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking an International Student Advisor to help international students and scholars comply with federal regulations and university policies. You will serve as DSO/ARO, prepare visa documents, and support pre-arrival and orientation activities.

You will also advise on academic progress, assist with financial aid options, and coordinate events to support students’ cultural and educational experiences. This is a hybrid role with some remote work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or an equivalent combination of experience/training.

Responsibilities

• Advise international students, campus staff, and faculty on procedures, policies, and regulations governing all types of non-immigrant status available to international students at the University.
• Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to federal programs governing the support of international students. Analyze and interpret data to produce visa documents for new and continuing students as needed.
• Communicates with students on pre-arrival procedures.
• Provides advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress towards completion of study; alternative academic options, resolves scheduling conflicts, and similar issues in relation to federal regulatory requirements.
• Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards; advises students on financial aid options.
• Conducts orientations of new international students. Advises international students and their dependents on a variety of matters related to their stay at UC-Berkeley.
• Coordinates and implements non-complex events that support students' educational, cultural, and social needs.
• Advises department/college/school students on employment preparation, timelines, and regulatory requirements. Organizes and presents employment-related workshops.
