Job summary

Job Overview

The UC International Services Office is looking for anInternational Services Advisor to join a team of twelve full-timeprofessionals dedicated to overseeing immigration matters for F-1and J-1 exchange visitors. This position will report directly tothe Assistant Director of International Services, and to theAssociate Director of International Services, and ultimately to theDirector of Immigration Services and Compliance within UCInternational Services. The position will support the University’smission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students,faculty, staff and all other activities. UC International is theuniversity-wide unit, within the Office of the Senior VicePresident for Academic Affairs & Provost, responsible forserving international students and scholars, education abroadstudents, as well as the development of the university'sinternational strategic planning initiatives.

The International Services Advisor will advise internationalstudents and scholars on immigration and visa matters, serve as aDesignated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer forF-1 and J-1 programs, and assist with the planning and coordinatingof all office programs and activities. UC International Servicesuses the Sunapsis International Office platform for businesspractices and SEVIS compliance. The International Services Advisorwill utilize the Sunapsis International Office system (internallybranded iBearcatsGlobal) to process immigration benefits anddocuments for F-1 students and J-1 scholars. The position will beresponsible for SEVIS reporting, compliance, and student/scholarcase management and will need to liaise with InternationalAdmissions, The Graduate School, One Stop, Academic Advising,faculty, staff, and other relevant stakeholders. The position willalso need to provide general support for international students andmake appropriate referrals to students requiring professional help.The International Services Advisor will assist with the developmentand implementation of unit programs including immigration check-in,workshops, retreats and other social/cultural programs. It willalso be required to perform related duties based on departmentneed.

Starting salary range for the position is $50,000 - $53,500based on education and experience level. There is a possibility towork remotely 2-3 days per week once trained.

Essential Functions

• Advise international students and scholars on immigrationpolicies, procedures and concerns.
• Assist international students and scholars with applying forwork permits, change of status and reinstatement.
• Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 SEVISsystem.
• Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 SEVISsystem.
• Make appropriate referrals to students requiring professionalhelp. (i.e., provide information on community resources).
• Serve as liaison with faculty/staff regarding student needs,and with government agencies.
• Perform related duties based on departmental need. This jobdescription can be changed at any time.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Twelve (12) years of relevant work experienceand/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of educationrequirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident toengage in DSO or ARO duties.

Additional Qualifications Considered

• Experience serving as a Designated School Official orResponsible Officer.
• Knowledge of best practices in international higher educationand/or providing services to international students.
• Ability to interact with students, administrators, and othersin a highly professional manner.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Computer literacy in data entry and organization along withmanaging multiple databases.
• Experience using the Sunapsis International Officeplatform.

• Office environment/no specific unusual physical orenvironmental demands.
