Job summary

Hudson Valley Community College seeks a Coordinator for International Student Affairs to join the Office of Global Initiatives. This 12-month, full-time role supports F-1, M-1 and J-1 processes, maintains SEVIS records, and liaises with DHS and SEVP to ensure compliance.

The coordinator advises students on immigration status, assists with admissions, and maintains program documentation and web pages. A background in international student services and strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university, or an Associate Degree with three years of relevant experience.
• Three years in international student affairs at a public and/or private post-secondary institution.
• Proficiency in all U.S. Immigration Laws and Regulations and Procedures concerning F-1, M-1 and J-1 status. Must possess excellent written, oral, and cross-cultural communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serving as the Primary Designated School Official, maintaining all F-1 Student Records for regulatory compliance, in SEVIS.
• Serving as campus liaison to the DHS SEVP that certifies all F-1 records.
• Provide guidance to International Students to assist them in maintaining lawful Immigration Status, via meetings and electronic communications.
• With the support of the Admission Office, oversee the admissions process for prospective International Students; advise credential evaluation and international status concerns.
• Provides updates to the Office of Communications for the International Student Web Pages on the college’s website.
• Assist International Students with applications for immigration benefits and complete related documentation in SEVIS.
• Assist International Students with various issues impacting their adjustment and success and make referrals.
• Issuing Invitation Letters for Family Members of Foreign-Born Students and specialized letters as needed.
• Maintains student records, databases, admissions processing, and other admin tasks.
• Serves as liaison and mediator for International Students with campus personnel and external partners.
• Serve as the International Student Accident and Illness Insurance Plan Administrator and SUNY J-1 Advisor.
• Plans and implements student programming activities including Orientation and workshops.
• Interview and track admissions of prospective International Students and advise credential evaluation.
• Assist with Global Initiatives as needed.
• Maintain the college’s network of global connections and partners.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
