Job summary

CBRE's Global Property Accounting team seeks a senior leader to oversee property accounting for complex commercial real estate portfolios. You will manage multiple teams delivering accurate financial reporting, month-end close, and portfolio accounting services with strong internal controls and client service excellence.

This role partners with CBRE leadership and senior client stakeholders, driving controllership best practices, process improvements, and governance across multi-property assets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive commercial real estate or property accounting experience, including leadership of accounting teams.
  • Significant experience in commercial real estate accounting, property accounting, portfolio accounting, or controllership functions.
  • Experience with ERP and real estate accounting platforms such as Yardi, MRI, PeopleSoft, SAP, or similar systems preferred.
  • Proven experience leading accounting teams supporting large, complex, multi-property commercial real estate portfolios.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing month-end close, financial statement preparation and review, balance sheet reconciliations, and portfolio-level reporting.
  • Experience managing accounting activities related to cash management, debt administration, owner distributions, real estate taxes, and client reporting requirements.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information, identify risks, and develop strategic business recommendations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, lead large teams, and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, executive stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple property accounting teams responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of financial reporting for large, complex commercial real estate portfolios.
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with client reporting requirements, accounting standards, and established controls.
  • Review and approve financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting packages, and other key accounting deliverables to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders and CBRE leadership, providing financial expertise and strategic guidance on accounting and business matters.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls, governance practices, and accounting processes that support reporting integrity and operational excellence.
  • Oversee accounting activities related to cash management, debt administration, owner distributions, real estate taxes, sales taxes, and other property accounting functions.
  • Lead client onboarding, portfolio transitions, acquisitions, dispositions, and other complex accounting initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts that enhance efficiency, reporting quality, scalability, and client satisfaction.
  • Function as the primary accounting point of contact for designated strategic accounts, building strong client relationships and delivering exceptional service.
  • Analyze scope changes, support pricing activities, and identify opportunities for operational improvements and value-added services.
  • Develop, mentor, and lead accounting managers and team members through coaching, performance management, succession planning, and professional development.
  • Support internal and external audits while ensuring compliance with accounting policies, client requirements, and control environments.
  • Partner with senior leadership to implement strategic departmental and corporate initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and client-focused service excellence.

About the Role

As a Global Property Accounting Controller , you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for property accounting operations supporting complex commercial real estate portfolios and strategic client accounts. You will lead multiple accounting teams responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting, month-end close activities, and portfolio accounting services while ensuring strong internal controls, operational excellence, and exceptional client service.

This highly visible role serves as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders and CBRE leadership, driving accounting best practices, controllership excellence, process improvement initiatives, and financial performance across a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate assets.

Ideal candidates will possess significant commercial real estate and property accounting leadership experience, including oversight of portfolio financial reporting, month-end close processes, internal controls, client relationships, financial statement review, and the leadership of accounting teams supporting large, complex, multi-property portfolios. This role is designed for experienced property accounting and controllership professionals who have successfully led accounting operations, developed high-performing teams, and partnered with clients to deliver accurate financial reporting, strong governance, and exceptional service.

What You'll Do

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Controller position is $120,000 annually and the maximum salary for the Controller position is $130,000 annually. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program. This role will provide the following benefits: 401(K), Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, and Vision insurance.
