Job summary

Rustic Pathways is seeking a Program Leader to care for students on international trips. You will serve as a primary responder in emergencies, coordinate with co-leaders and local partners, and communicate with parents about program updates and student well‑being.

The role emphasizes safety, leadership, cross-cultural communication, and adherence to sustainability protocols while working in diverse communities around the world.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 22 years of age or older before start date
  • Professional working proficiency in English
  • Basic CPR and First Aid certification from a licensed provider (classroom or blended training)
  • Fluency in Spanish required for Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Peru
  • Driver's license with clean record for programs in US, Australia, NZ

Responsibilities

  • Embody Rustic Pathways’ mission, vision, and values
  • Act as role model and mentor to students
  • Protect student safety by upholding zero-tolerance behavior
  • Monitor and manage student well-being
  • Follow Rustic Pathways’ protocols on the program
  • Address student health issues and communicate action plans with parents
  • Provide daily updates and photos to team and parents
  • Respond calmly to issues with a focus on customer service and safety
  • Demonstrate leadership with cultural sensitivity
  • Create positive and inclusive group dynamics
  • Partner with local leaders to convey history, culture, and context
  • Model responsible travel respecting sustainability protocols
  • Lead discussions using Rustic Pathways guides
