Job summary

American Express is seeking an Engineering Director for Enterprise Platforms, Global Accounts Payable, Service Technology to lead a high‑impact, globally distributed team responsible for the AR platform used by millions of cardholders and B2B customers. You will drive architecture, delivery, and platform excellence across product and technology teams.

You will mentor engineers, promote Agile practices, and collaborate with stakeholders to align priorities, ensure quality, and accelerate delivery

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 12+ years of software engineering with 8+ in leadership.
• Hands-on with Java, Go, Python and back-end languages.
• Experience with Kafka, RDBMS, NoSQL databases.
• Experience building responsive, multi-threaded apps.
• Strong RESTful API design and Agile/Scrum leadership.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the global AR platform team; provide deep technical expertise at the platform level.
• Drive delivery of complex engineering solutions and large-scale problems.
• Work with Scrum teams to build new capabilities and strengthen offerings.
• Champion innovation, experimentation, and rapid delivery of solutions.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (technology, product, business) to align on goals and priorities.
• Ensure quality, visibility, and compliance across the engineering organization.
• Guide, mentor, and develop engineering staff.
• Communicate status and trade-offs to stakeholders and leadership.
