Job summary

The U.S. Department of State, Charleston Office, is seeking a Compensation Technician to perform payroll processing, T&A reporting, and benefits actions for Foreign Service and Civil Service staff.

This in-office role supports both domestic and overseas posts in a complex payroll environment. Responsibilities include time and attendance processing, pay action research, and year-to-date adjustments, with strong emphasis on accuracy and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Senior level experience in management, budget, program analysis, procurement, personnel management, auditing or inspecting.
• Requires strong multi-tasking, customer service, analytical and organizational skills, plus excellent verbal and written communication.
• Experience with payroll/financial operations in high-volume environments and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Process Time & Attendance reporting and payroll calculations across multiple systems.
• Research, analyze, and process pay actions under Benefits and related programs.
• Support reporting measures such as T&A, payroll adjustments and year-to-date corrections.
• Verify personnel actions for overseas posts and domestic bureaus for compliance.
• Respond to employee payroll questions and help resolve issues.
