Job summary

The MIL Corporation in Charleston, SC is seeking a Payroll Support Specialist III to support the Office of Global Compensation within the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of the CGFS.

This on-site role processes payroll, analyzes and audits time, pay, deductions, and benefits for Foreign Service, Civil Service, and Locally Employed staff across 180 countries and 140 currencies. The position requires 6+ years of experience with strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional work experience.
• Experience with complex financial management systems preferred.
• Familiarity with DoS financial/compensation systems preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Team-oriented and able to work effectively in a group.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Ability to manage a high-volume workload under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Process, research, analyze, and verify specialized payroll actions.
• Calculate and process Time and Attendance (T&A) in proprietary systems.
• Process pay, leave, tax, benefit, and deduction transactions by account/country code.
• Verify personnel actions and contracts; coordinate corrections with posts.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay and payroll matters.
• Audit, analyze, and reconcile payroll reports and accounts; handle retroactive adjustments.
• Perform manual pay calculations when automation falls short.
• Resolve erroneous payments and T&A rejects; support multiple teams.
