Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Optical, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3–5 years of hands-on industrial laser-welding, laser process development, precision joining, or laser-equipment development experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of laser-material interaction, weld-joint design, optics, wavelength/power selection, beam delivery, focus, motion systems, fixturing/clamping, process monitoring, heat-affected-zone considerations, extraction, and industrial laser safety.
• Experience defining, specifying, commissioning, and integrating laser-welding equipment into automated manufacturing systems, including FAT/SAT and production handoff.

Responsibilities

• Own laser-welding technology readiness across CBS sites, including development and deployment.
• Define the laser-welding technology roadmap and evaluate new laser sources, beam-delivery concepts, and automation technologies.
• Collaborate with Product Engineering on joint geometry, material compatibility, tolerances, and design for manufacturability.
• Develop robust process windows using DOE and analysis for key parameters like power, speed, focus, and weld controls.
• Translate concepts into repeatable production solutions and enable factory deployment.
• Lead process readiness for prototype through MP ramp, including phase-gate criteria and training.
• Lead welding trials, evaluation, and validation to establish stable production processes.
• Define CTQs/CTFs, process monitoring, and control plans to maintain weld quality.
• Deploy technical solutions to CBS factories and provide training and support.
• Establish platform standardization and governance for laser-welding.
• Coach site engineers and manage complex root-cause investigations.
• Engage with laser OEMs and automation partners for trials and deployments.
• Capture lessons learned and develop reusable standards and training content.
• Travel 30-50% domestically and internationally as needed.
