Job summary

Astellas is seeking an Associate Director, Global Media Relations to shape and lead our global media strategy. Based in Northbrook, IL, you will work with senior leaders to elevate our science, pipeline and corporate priorities across earned, owned and digital channels.

In this role you will manage high-profile media engagements, advise executives, develop integrated communications plans, and mentor teams across regions, balancing risk and opportunity in a fast-paced, highly regulated healthcare

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or Marketing.
Minimum of 10 years in public relations/media relations or related fields, with C-suite support.
Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences industries.
Proven track record with top-tier healthcare/industry media relationships.
Experience in corporate communications at a global company and executive counsel experience.

Responsibilities

Create and execute a comprehensive, proactive global media relations strategy.
Lead earned media across healthcare, scientific, business, financial and trade outlets.
Secure high-impact opportunities elevating executives and scientific leadership.
Serve as primary contact for top-tier media and external stakeholders.
Develop relationships with global media; manage media inquiries and global coverage.
Increase awareness of the company narrative and establish thought leadership.
Develop external plans for major company initiatives with global impact.
Prepare executives for high-visibility media engagements.
Translate complex topics into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
Set KPIs for media quality, share of voice, and executive visibility, tracking results.
Provide strategic counsel on reputation matters and crisis response.
Identify speaking, media and thought leadership opportunities for leaders.
Anticipate and manage emerging issues with integrated communication strategies.
Ensure on-time media monitoring, messaging and press event delivery.
Oversee global PR, media and digital agencies and drive cohesive plans.
Integrate media relations with broader digital and social channels.
Keep management updated on breaking news with proactive monitoring.
Collaborate with partners and stakeholders for joint engagement opportunities.
