Job summary

Nextern seeks an IT Systems Administrator to manage day-to-day administration, maintenance, and reliability of its global IT infrastructure. You will backstop the IT team, handle escalations, and partner with stakeholders to support technology initiatives.

The ideal candidate has broad systems knowledge, strong communication skills, and experience with Windows/Linux, AD/Azure, and Microsoft 365 in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 3+ years hands-on experience in systems administration or IT infrastructure.
• Proficiency with Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 administration.
• Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V).
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN, firewalls, DNS/DHCP.
• Familiarity with endpoint management tools (Intune, SCCM).
• Experience supporting a geographically distributed or global workforce is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Windows/Linux server environments and related infrastructure services.
• Escalate and resolve complex helpdesk requests for global IT staff and end users.
• Monitor system health, performance, and availability; proactively address issues.
• Plan and execute patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management for servers and network equipment.
• Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures with regular testing.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls across Microsoft 365 and on-prem directories.
• Onboard and integrate new systems; document configurations and runbooks for knowledge transfer.
• Provide guidance on infrastructure best practices and troubleshooting to global IT teams.
• Support internal initiatives by evaluating tech needs and delivering infrastructure components on time.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity to enforce policies and maintain compliance.
• Manage vendor relationships and service contracts related to IT infrastructure.
• Create and maintain accurate technical documentation and change logs.
