Job summary

Elanco in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a Head of Intellectual Property to serve as the senior IP legal advisor to the General Counsel and business leaders. You will lead the IP function, drive exclusivity strategy, and partner with R&D and marketing to align IP with business goals.

The role requires a J.D., 15+ years IP experience, USPTO bar admission, and a track record of managing global IP teams, licensing, due diligence, and risk assessment.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an Accredited Law School.
• 15+ years of IP, patent and trademark related legal experience.
• Licensed to practice before the USPTO and a member in good standing of at least one state bar.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the company’s global intellectual property legal function to ensure business objectives by developing, implementing, and executing exclusivity strategies.
• Serve as a business partner.
• Proactively provide creative and practical legal and business advice related to IP to help drive favorable business outcomes.
• Counsel business leaders on IP issues including procurement, contracts, freedom to operate, and litigation.
• Advise the VP of R&D and the VP of Elanco franchises on intellectual property matters.
• Stay abreast of changes in intellectual property law across countries and regions and anticipate implications for Elanco.
• Manage the IP function’s budget and financial resources.
• Lead and guide in-house IP lawyers worldwide to optimize performance of the IP team.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives, IP due diligence, licensing, and IP risk assessment in business transactions.
