Job summary

Vanguard is seeking a Head of Client Identity Engineering to define and deliver the firm’s global client identity strategy and architectural roadmap. You will oversee enterprise-scale identity platforms across web, mobile, and advisor channels, guiding secure, scalable, and resilient engineering worldwide.

The role requires deep expertise in identity, cloud security, and AI-enabled security controls, with a track record of leading large, diverse teams and influencing executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years in cloud security engineering or related IT infrastructure roles.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, cybersecurity, or related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Experience leading security architecture and operations at scale in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence.
• Deep expertise in identity technologies including authentication, authorization, federation, OAuth, OpenID Connect, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience leading large-scale cloud-based platforms and engineering teams in highly regulated environments.
• Strong cybersecurity, privacy controls, resilience, observability, and secure software engineering practices.
• Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain senior engineers across global locations.
• Exceptional executive communication, stakeholder influence, financial stewardship, vendor management, and change leadership.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the global client identity engineering strategy, target architecture, multiyear roadmap, and investment priorities.
• Lead globally distributed engineering teams accountable for architecture, software development, platform engineering, reliability, testing, implementation, and production support.
• Establish reusable platforms, APIs, SDKs, automation, observability, and engineering standards for broad adoption.
• Create an operating model enabling follow-the-sun delivery, clear ownership, and consistent quality.
• Build a high-performing engineering culture centered on technical excellence and measurable outcomes.
• Lead rapid experimentation, threat modeling, and evaluation of emerging technologies.
