Job summary

The Office of the Legal Adviser (L) within the U.S. Department of State seeks a specialist Attorney-Adviser to serve in the Office of Employment Law (L/EMP). The attorney will defend the Department in litigation and provide legal advice to senior officials on issues related to employment law. This Excepted Service position requires a J.D.

or LL.M. and active bar membership. Applicants must meet the qualification requirements at the closing date, with GS-14/GS-15 level expertise in employment law

Qualifications

• J.D. or LL.M. from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in a U.S. state, territory, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.

Responsibilities

• Defend the Department in litigation and advise senior officials on employment law matters.
• Draft memoranda and briefs; conduct discovery; memorialize interagency agreements and settlements.
• Address employment law issues arising from employer/employee relationships and related regulations.
