Job summary

Wellspring Philanthropic Fund in New York, NY seeks an International Children’s Education Program Officer to work with senior staff on an international grantmaking program transforming basic education in Africa for all children.

The role involves monitoring grants, building grantee relationships, mentoring staff, and collaborating with donors while accounting for accountability and learning across initiatives. Travel to remote areas is expected.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree or equivalent experience in education or related field.
• Strong background in educational implementation, advocacy, or Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.
• Experience or knowledge around life skills, youth development, education for marginalized groups, rights to education.
• Experience working in Africa or with African institutions; five years’ experience in education/grantmaking in sub-Saharan Africa.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement grantmaking priorities and strategic approaches under guidance.
• Refine theory of change for themes and identify opportunities.
• Monitor field developments to identify gaps and opportunities.
• Engage with donors, NGOs and grantees; participate in funder collaboratives.
• Oversee knowledge-exchange convenings and travel internationally to engage with partners.
